Appendix: Variable Wind Results.

The observed winds were taken from the seven stations shown in this figure Stations.

The observed wind fields were initially run on the Gulf-wide mesh for the northeasterly wind event. The wind stress that was used to force the Gulf simulation is shown in this animation Wind.

The pressure response is shown in this animation Pressure.

The vertically averaged velocity result is shown here Velocity.

The streamfunction result is here Psi . In this animation a point in the eastern Gulf noted to not change greatly throughout the simulation was held constant to see the intensification along the coast .

The simulation was then conducted on the coastal mesh, using the entire wind event. The wind stress is here, Wind on coast.

The vertically averaged velocity result is shown here Velocity on coast.

Currently not working. The Merrimack transect animation Merrimack. The black lines are isohalines and the colored bands are normal velocity with positive values going in and negative values coming out. The vectors are the tangent velocity.

The Kennebec and Androscoggin transect animation KA. The figure is as defined above.

The Penobscot transect taken at the outflow of the Penobscot river, not included in the paper is here Penobscot. The figure is as defined above.
